Do you have a ‘Wellness Strategy’?

wellness_education_0

Do YOU have a ‘Wellness Strategy’ for 2017?

What is a ‘Wellness Strategy’? A wellness strategy is a plan of action to achieve personal wellness goals. For example; say your goal is to relax more, ask yourself “How could I accomplish that? What does ‘relax’ mean to me?”

A Wellness Strategy’s purpose is strictly to make accomplishing your goals attainable and less intimidating. To create a Wellness Strategy one must first decide what their wellness goal is. The next step would be to break that goal down into separate parts by asking yourself key questions.

  • “What does this goal mean for me or to me? Does this goal immediately affect my every day life or is it long term?”
  • “What could I do to accomplish this goal? What steps can I take to start?”
After asking yourself key questions such as these, one must then determine whether or not the goal is attainable and sustainable in their life. If your current lifestyle doesn’t allow the desired goal to be attained, how can you adjust your goal or your plan of action? How could you adjust your lifestyle to help make your goal attainable?
EXAMPLE: If your goal is to eat healthier
1st Ask yourself “What does that mean for me and my every day life?” Does this mean making more homemade meals with raw ingredients? Drinking shakes? Eating at home 3 nights a week?
2nd Ask yourself are these steps attainable and sustainable with your lifestyle. Does your work schedule allow time to shop for raw ingredients? Do you have time in the morning to prepare your day’s shakes? Are you home 3 nights a week to eat a meal?
3rd If your answer is no, your current lifestyle doesn’t allow for this to be attainable, then you must ask what you can adjust to make it attainable. Can you order your groceries online to be delivered to your home? Can you make your shakes the night before and store them in the fridge for the next day? Can you prep meals to freeze if you won’t have time to prepare them? If you can’t be home 3 nights a week, is there a vegan or all natural local restaurant you can eat at those nights?

Teen with Severe Gluten Allergy uses THIS for Pain Relief

For 15 year old Mary-Kate, her Gluten allergy prevents her from being able to use pain relievers such as Ibuprofen when she experiences pain and cramps from Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Looking for a Gluten free product safe for her to use to relieve her cramps and other symptoms, Mary-Kate turned to SkinCatering’s all-natural SkinCare product, ‘Iron Maiden‘.

According to the Mayo Clinic, more than 3 Million people in the United States alone are told they have a Gluten allergy each year. This is an allergy that is not curable and can last a life-time. You really don’t realize how many things you consume or use each and every day that contain Gluten until you can no longer consume it. There are also substances that may make symptoms of Gluten intolerance worse, such as anti-inflammatories and pain relievers.

Gluten allergy or sensitivity is similar to Celiac disease with the main difference being that Gluten sensitivity does not permanently damage your intestines. However, Gluten sensitivity does enflame your intestines and cause irritation. When you take an anti-inflammatory or pain reliever it “increases intestinal permeability allowing for [food particles] to access the immune system…” If you already have intestinal irritation stemmed from a Gluten sensitivity, taking anti-inflammatories and pain relievers such as ibuprofen will only worsen your symptoms.

Mary-Kate talked about her Gluten allergy and Dairy allergy in her testimonial video.

“… I can’t use Ibuprofen or anything like that… I’ve used Iron Maiden… and it actually does help with everything. It’s very calming and just helps with the cramps [from PMS] because I can’t use the alternative.”

SkinCatering SkinCare ships internationally so don’t fret if you aren’t in the United States! Everyone can have access to our amazing SkinCare alternatives!

Benefits of Massage for the Bride-To-Be

Engaged!

How exciting to plan a celebration of the joining of two soul mates, right? I remember planning my own wedding in 1999 amid all the hoopla of the upcoming new millennium; talk about hectic! The excitement from the beginning can give way to stress as the date looms closer. All those little details can have you seriously considering elopement to Vegas! The saving grace during my own wedding planning was a gift from my mom – she sent me for a massage that had such a calming effect on me, I nearly floated down the aisle the day of my wedding.

While there’s a long list of benefits from receiving a professional massage, here’s a few that the busy bride-to-be may want to consider:

– Massage increases happiness. During wedding planning, feelings of sadness may arise if a loved one is not going to be at the celebration. Massage can help your natural feel-good hormones, serotonin & dopamine, increase which helps change a negative attitude into a positive one before you walk your gorgeous self down the aisle.

– Massage increases wellness. Elevated cortisol levels inhibit immune system function, leading to illness and [gasp] dreaded weight gain. Two things a busy bride just shouldn’t have to worry about before her big day are having a runny nose and not being able to zip the dress!

– Massage increases memory. The hippocampus is the region of the brain related to memory forming, organizing & storing them, and retrieving those memories when needed. Massage helps create faster and more elaborate development of this region to give you superior memory performance. Brides-to-be may find this helpful to recall details during planning, while grooms may wish for the opposite – especially after his bachelor party!

– Massage increases rest. Delta brainwave activity is linked to deep sleep. When your mind won’t turn off long enough to get a good night’s rest it effects your decision making & function. And take it from me, an experienced bridesmaid with a closet full of dresses: No bride should be deciding our dresses without enough sleep! (“And you’ll be able to wear this dress again, isn‘t that great?!”)

At SkinCatering we’ve made it even easier for brides to fit a massage into their busy schedule because we specialize in busy people!  Our hours are 8am to 8pm Monday thru Friday, 9am to 1pm on Saturday, and by appointment Saturday afternoon/evening & Sunday morning.  We even have a mobile massage option!

Have a whole bridal party that needs to decompress? We offer massage parties that give each guest mini-massage sessions at mini-prices, and the bride gets hers free with at least 5 participating guests.

Giving the Gift of Wellness

Recently I read a blog post on the Huffington Post by Christella Morris about giving experiences as presents, instead of things.

Many retailers, and small business like my own, rely on gift giving during the holiday season to pay their employees (and their bills) during the slower months.  But I get what Christella is saying, and luckily I am in the spa industry where our services ARE magical experiences you can give.

When purchasing a gift certificate, you can choose a specific service experience, or you can simply do a dollar amount so your loved one can choose what they need to make them feel better.

This season, consider our new 6 week wellness program as a gift!

The gift of better health is a win-win because in the end, everyone is happy.

not just this holiday season!

Oh The Places You Will Go: 30+ Interesting facts about Springfield, Mass

Interesting Fact Number 1:

  • SkinCatering is opening it’s 2nd location in Springfield, MA in November 2013!

Yes, you read that correctly! My team and I have the honor of supporting, and caring for, the busy people of Springfield, Massachusetts.

So where will we be exactly?

Tower Square is the name of this special building that will house our 1600 square foot spa & skincare operation.

It’s located in the heart of downtown Springfield at 1500 Main Street.  Attached to the Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, and Mass Mutual, Tower Square has a 3 level parking garage, food court, restaurant (Currents), private dining club (The Colony Club), sports bar (Champions) and best of all…it’s within walking distance for most of our existing clientele that work in the area!

I have a special love of Springfield, as this is where my grandparents were born and raised.

My grandma Shirley worked at the very first Friendly’s Ice Cream restaurant! She made the best Root Beer Floats when I was little.

While I grew up in Canada and visited Hampden County almost every summer, I’ve spent a lot of time here in the 16 years I’ve lived in the Pioneer Valley.  True to it’s historic reputation for innovative progress, I’ve pleasantly watched as positive changes have been made by people embracing the Revitalization of Springfield.  I am thrilled to be a part of it!

Before work, on your lunch break, or after work, you can schedule a full appointment or an express session at a time that fits your busy schedule.
